Functional Business Analyst

  • The Functional Business Analyst will serve as a key liaison between the IT team and the lending and accounting divisions, focusing on the federal financial agency’s loan and accounting systems. This role involves analyzing lending/accounting processes, identifying improvements, and implementing solutions that enhance the functionality and efficiency of the loan and accounting systems. The analyst will apply mathematical knowledge and technical skills to understand lending operations quickly, support testing during development, and ensure that the system requirements trace back the evolving needs of the business.

    Your Experience:

    Must Have

    • Proven experience as a Business Analyst or similar role, with a preference for experience in financial services or lending.

    • Ability to grasp complex lending processes and systems quickly.

    • Excellent technical skills, including proficiency with database management and reporting tools.

    • Proven ability to quickly learn new business domains and technical applications.

    • Strong mathematical background to support complex financial calculations and lending concepts

    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think algorithmically

    • Effective communication skills, with the proficiency to create clear requirements, specifications, and documentation

    • Microsoft: Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Project, Teams, SharePoint

    • Exceptional critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills

    • Ability to communicate confidently with multiple stakeholders, including but not limited to: C-Suite, Section/Branch Chiefs, PMs, etc.

    • Excellent written communication and documentation skills

    • Highly motivated and organized with strong time management skills

    • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as collaboratively in a team environment

    Highly Desired, but not required

    • Experience in financial systems analysis or financial modeling or

    • Experience with loan and accounting systems or similar financial service platforms

    • Knowledge of lending processes and regulations is advantageous but not required

    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

    • Familiarity with Java or similar programming languages, sufficient to understand system development and assist with process automation

    • Previous experience supporting IT projects, able to coordinate within cross-functional teams to meet project timelines and objectives

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Accounting, Computer Science, Finance, Economics, or a related field and/or equivalent experience

    • Advanced degrees or certifications in business analysis, financial modeling, or project management are preferred

    • Must be able to obtain and hold Minimum Background Trust / Public Trust

  • This position offers a work-from-home arrangement specifically designed for Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) professionals. Our team members enjoy the convenience of working from their homes while being located close enough to engage with RiverNorth employees and the federal agency. While you will primarily work from home, the client may require as-needed meetings onsite at their offices in Arlington, VA & Washington, DC with minimal notice at times. Additionally, the client reserves the right to require the team to perform on-site full-time or part-time in the future, based on agency RTO guidance.


    RiverNorth maintains office spaces in Ashburn, VA, and Fairfax, VA, allowing our consultants to work from these locations if they choose. It's important to note that certain activities, such as orientation, training, and company meetings, are conducted in person at our offices. This setup is ideal for those who live in the DMV area and seek the flexibility of working from home yet remain connected and accessible for essential in-person engagements.
